Dropped kerbs in Rose Avenue to improve accessibility for all

It has taken nearly two years but we are pleased to have helped supply a number of dropped kerbs along Rose Avenue.

These will particularly help those with mobility problems to more easily access facilities in our community such as the Hazlemere Youth Club, Sir William Ramsay School, Jackson Court and the Hazlemere Community Centre.

Other kerbs have also been lowered which will make the walk towards the Library easier and provide a number of crossing points which will be useful to the disabled and those pushing buggies. The dimpled paving slopes also act as a guide for the visually impaired to help them find the edge of the road,

All this work was carried out by Bucks County Council contractors at a cost of some £20000 of which nearly £14000 was provided by Hazlemere Parish Council.

We would like to thank Jamie and Nikki Arnold for bringing this to our attention in the first place, to our County Councillor Katrina Wood for her support, Parish Clerk Ali Banham for meeting and liaising with BCC and chasing this along, and to Parish Councillor Alan Cecil who strongly supported this idea from the start and encouraged HPC to give it their support.

These photographs show how Nikki Arnold will now be able to cross roads and entrances on her mobility scooter and how parents like Nicky Holden, with children in a buggy, will find it much easier to do the same.
